by notches in the bark of a tree there is marked two paths, diverging from one path. down one of these paths is another tree with another two markings leading to another two paths. down the other path there is a tree that marks the convergence of two paths, one having come from some other way. a coming together. a combining with a path that, presumably, split of at some previous divergence. the whole forest lies down these two paths in front of you. 

but, from whence have you come? and why? and when did there become a path and not no path?
